“You become…

…what you give your attention to.”–Epictetus

Since we have such a small amount of time to spend with one another and building up our relationships and individual skills, let’s spend it wisely! For children, this means playing, learning to choose, to wait, to take turns, to share, to balance laughing and talking with listening, to balance thoughts and big emotions, to curb impulses, to push through disappointment with additional effort, and to learn to ask for help–and all while managing their blossoming independence in addition to more traditional aims such as reading, math, etc. Whew! These are formative tasks that build the foundation of so much of their future.

Let’s give our attention to important things and be present for each moment with the children–each moment constructs their future selves.

Parameters and communication regarding school closure

Hello, dear Parents!

The current plan is to open on Tuesday. We won’t close due to cold weather.

There are a few times that the school will close or postpone its start:

1. travel to and from the school would be unsafe for the teachers and children due to poor road conditions

2. the walking paths around the school are iced over/slippery and unsafe for the students, teachers, or parents to use

3. the school doesn’t have water and/or power

Hopefully, the outside environment will be cold, but the school (and Pflugerville homes/businesses!) will be toasty with plenty of water, power, and safe walking paths on Tuesday.

I will head over to the school about 5 am on Tuesday morning to inspect the grounds and will communicate any changes to this plan ASAP. News or changes will be announced on SmartCare and the blog.

Stay warm and safe!

Rachel

Happy Friday!

We hope you all stay warm and safe this weekend! We will see you on Tuesday.

Our eclipse glasses have also arrived. So exciting! We will have an eclipse party on April 4th–I’ll write more about that celebration later!

Happy Monday!

Tomorrow is our Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration!

We will make a sweet potato pie, the older friends will read and help construct a timeline of his life, the younger friends will read Martin’s Big Words (an amazing book), and all the children will color a MLK headband.

Thank you for all your patience with our plumbing project!
