Hello, Dear Parents,
David O’Dell, the parent who hosts the star parties, has organized an opportunity for interested families from Marimont to come tour the Johnson Space Center Museum and Rocket Park.
Here is his message:
I’d like to host a NASA tour of Johnson Space Center Museum and Rocket Park in Houston. I have organized this trip with dozens of high school students and parents but would like to suggest doing this fun, inspiring and educational event again for parents of Marimont.
The easiest way to do this is to meet there in Houston. Parents decide how and when they get there. This is a half-day event, the facility closes at 5pm. In my experience it takes about 4 hours to see everything.
When: Saturday, April 19
Meetup Time: 11 am
Where: Johnson Space Center, Houston TX
Meetup location: Inside the museum at the information desk on the right after getting your tickets scanned.
Tickets: General Admission $40 for adults, $35 for kids (paid online)
Parking: $10 (see visitor information link, you’ll need to download the app)
Tips for visiting the Space Center:
– You want to go on the FREE tram tours (Rocket Park and Astronaut Training Facility) as soon as you can. Those are on a first come first serve basis that day, no advance booking. Booking is done at the information desk.
– Save the museum, shuttle mock-up and SpaceX rocket for last since these don’t need booking.
– This is very stroller and kid friendly, indoors with AC mostly except for the tram tour.
– There is a cafeteria there, it is so-so, I would highly suggest eating BEFORE you arrive.
– Clean bathrooms are all around
Classic Mission Control tour will cost extra, this is up to you if you want to purchase this kind of ticket. As someone who lived through the shuttle years, it’s pretty cool if you’ve never seen it, it’s a United Nations World Heritage site. This is the OLD mission control, like in the movie Apollo 13. You get to sit in the same viewing area seats that presidents, foreign dignitaries and the press would sit during those missions. The current, modern mission control is not accessible to the public on these tours.
