Our Book Exchange is tomorrow!
I will make sure to post lots of pictures of the very sweet exchange between the classroom friends.
Continue readingWeather change this afternoon
Hello, dear Parents!
A cold front is predicted to blow in sometime soon. The afternoon will be windy and possibly chilly. Please bring a jacket for your child today just in case. They may not want to wear it when they are running around this afternoon, but it is always better to have the option 😊 Thank you so much!
“The child sees the same action…
…repeated at the same time every day in the same way. This attracts his attention. Children have a sense of the succession of activities in time. It is like a muscular memory, a memory of movement and of time.”
–Montessori
If your holiday home life is a little loopy at the moment, no worries! We are keeping the environment and the schedule as close to routine as possible. The children will be very excited for the Book Exchange, but even this very positive event can overexcite some friends (especially when it concludes so close to lunchtime!). We’re lucky to have a place where we can take a deep breath, eat snack, drink water, and go play if we need to!

Hello, dear Parents!
Please bring a wrapped book to school for your child’s Book Exchange buddy this Thursday, 12.19.
Please let me know if you do not know the student your child chose as a Book Exchange Buddy.
A few parents have had questions about what book to bring:
The child’s age and name should have been noted. The age will help you choose a developmentally appropriate book. Please let us know if you would like further information about a special interest this child might have!
Please make sure all books are in like-new condition.
Please wrap all books (unwrapping is half the fun of the exchange :).
Please make sure all topics and language in the book are appropriate for all children of all walks of life. Just for example, “Everyone Poops” is a funny book for some, but may not be appreciated by all children and households.
Thank you so much and please let me know if I can assist in any other way!

We hope you all have a safe and wonderful weekend!
Continue readingPlaying the Inca Trails!
Hello, dear Parents!
Today, the older friends completed their South America studies with a trip through the Inca Trails. It’s a card game where the children can move along the real sites along the trails, but they have to watch out for the cloud forests and keep their llamas healthy! If a chasqui comes with a summons, they need visit the nearest tambo to rest. The classes divided into two groups: Atahualpa and his soldiers, and the travelers who will bring food to Machu Picchu. Who reached Machu Picchu first? 🙂
Ask your 4 or 5-year-old child if they remember this tune (to the melody of London Bridge is Falling Down):
Machu Picchu in Peru, in Peru, in Peru
Machu Picchu in Peru,
High in the Andes Mountains.
Next week, the older and younger friends will make an art lesson featuring the Amazon Rainforest and the Blue Morpho Butterfly. I have cancelled the picarones recipe for this month because I didn’t want anyone to miss out on an activity this last week of school before the break!

We’ll see everyone tomorrow morning, when the weather will assuredly make it feel like hot-chocolate, cozy-sock, fuzzy-blanket winter day!
Continue readingWhat wonderful costumes!
Thank you, Parents, for all the creativity you displayed in your children’s costumes and for helping them dress up for Fable Day! We had seashores, sunsets, mice, cats, turtles, hares, wolves, apple trees, wolves dressed as apple trees, and hens. They looked fantastic.
