Piano/violin trial class today!

Thank you for all the interest in our new activity!

I am also compiling a list of all the families who expressed interest in the trip to the Dallas Arboretum in October. I will email you all today to confirm! If I haven’t received more details (especially times!) by Friday, I will call the coordinator to check in about our trip.

Austin OLE! is hosting an event tomorrow. It’s not geared for children, but rather for people who will be helping, educating, or spending time with children πŸ™‚

We are very excited to share that our guest speaker this Saturday morning is someone who truly understands how being outdoors helps children be healthier, happier and smarter.   Our speaker is David Buggs, Director of Community Engagement with Texas Parks and Wildlife. David also volunteers on the Board of Directors for Texas Children in Nature and will be sharing with us why nature is important for children and what we can all do to enhance it.

If you have kids, grandkids, kid neighbors, nephews, nieces, kid friends, or are just curious, join us for a lively and fascinating presentation.

Please share with all your kid people!

We also encourage attendees who have an excess of native plants to bring them to the meeting to exchange with others or give away to those who are just now getting into the native plant game!

See you this Saturday, August 10 (9am – Wells Branch Recreation Center, 3000 Shoreline Drive)!

Next month (on 9.19), the children will make Brazilian cornmeal cake.

“If you don’t have time to do it right…

…when will you have time to do it over?”–John Wooden

While this phrase is very applicable to adults, children in the Montessori classroom are free to repeat work towards a sense of self-mastery. One of the key features of the classroom, and of play in general, is that it offers the chance to make repeated attempts to practice towards mastery and a sense of achievement. I try to take pictures at slightly different times of the day, but I notice certain trends with some of our friends. As they become accustomed to the environment, they may start each day in a similar fashion of their own choosing. When they make a mistake, or make a mess, it’s really ok! They can clean up and try again tomorrow or to take a deep breath and make another attempt today. The Montessori classroom should provide consistent opportunities to repeatedly practice the process of skill and life building by appealing to a child’s inner drive for order and self-mastery.
