“Ask for what you need…

…and be prepared to get it!” –Maya Angelou

How many times do you hear someone tell a child to “Use their words”? What if the child is unable to remember what words to use at a certain moment due to extreme emotions like anger or sadness? We can wait until a child is calm, ask questions, and guide with specific language when necessary. Teaching children to ask for what they need is a daily work that requires patience, calmness, and repetition–but it allows the child to build an amazing level of self-awareness and control that is a life-long gift for them–and you!
