I noticed a common thread through many of today’s pictures: children watching other children work!
This opportunity to learn from observation and discussion is a strength of a large, mixed-age classroom. When an older child works on a more complex lesson, he or she inspires and teaches a younger friend. When a younger student who is normalized talks through their lesson with a friend who is new to the school, they demonstrate kindness and leadership. We all have roles and jobs in our classroom; we can all inspire, support, teach and have fun together!
